Overview

The HKL-FTIR Spectrometer is aimed at measuring the FA, FE, HV, and SV levels in rolling oils. It is especially relevant to quantifying the levels of additives in rolling oils for cold rolling of aluminum plates, strips, and foils. Because the typical absorption peaks for fatty alcohols (FA), esters (FE), hydroxyl values (HV), and saponification values (SV) do not overlap with each other and are also not changed by the background matrix (the base oil), the Lambert-Beer Law of infrared spectroscopy can be used to develop calibration charts that link the concentration of each element to its corrected peak area. Through approximation of the corrected peak areas of the specific absorption peaks in a sample’s spectrum, the level of each additive component can be accurately measured.
