IEC 60666 Determination of 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-p-cresol in Insulating Oil by Infrared Spectroscopy

2026-01-21

Detection Target

Determination of 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-p-cresol (DBPC) in Insulating Oil

Overview

This solution conforms to the ASTM D2668 Standard Test Method for 2,6-di-tert-Butyl- p-Cresol and 2,6-di-tert-Butyl Phenol in Electrical Insulating Oil by Infrared Absorption and IEC 60666 Detection and determination of specified additives in mineral insulating oils. This test method covers the determination of the weight percent of 2,6-ditertiary-butyl paracresol (DBPC) and 2,6-ditertiary-butyl phenol (DBP) in new or used electrical insulating oil in concentrations up to 0.5 % by measuring its absorbance at the specified wavelengths in the infrared spectrum. The quantitative determination of 2,6-di tertiary-butyl paracresol and 2,6-di tertiary-butyl phenol in a new electrical insulating oil measures the amount of this material that has been added to the oil as protection against oxidation. In a used oil it measures the amount remaining after oxidation has reduced its concentration. The test is also suitable for manufacturing control and specification acceptance.

Apparatus

HKL-60666 FTIR Spectrometer for 2,6-di-tert-Butyl Phenol

Specification

  1. Spectral range: 7800~350 cm-1

  2. Resolution: Better than 1.0 cm-1

  3. Signal-to-noise ratio: RMS value better than 150000:1; P-P value better than 30000:1 (at 4 cm-1 resolution, 1-minute background and sample scan, 2100 cm-1 wavenumbers)

  4. Detector: High-sensitivity pyroelectric detector, non-deliquescent (original imported)

  5. Beamsplitter: Multi-layer coated KBr with moisture-proof coating (original imported)

  6. Scanning speed: Computer-controlled with selectable scanning speeds, adjustable in steps, automatic spectrum comparison

  7. IR source: Long-life, high-intensity air-cooled system infrared source (original imported)
