Solid Sample Tablet Method
Applications: Powders, granules, and bulk samples.
Procedure: Combine 2-3 mg of the unknown solid sample and 200-300 mg of dry KBr powder in an agate mortar. After sufficient grinding, take 70-90 mg of the mixture with a stainless steel spatula and carry out the tablet formation.
Advantages: This method is a classic preparation technique for IR spectroscopy. The spectra obtained through this method are the most similar to the data found in commercial spectral libraries, which makes the comparison of spectra easier. Besides, the working process is simple and can be easily carried out.
Required Accessories: Spectroscopic grade KBr, agate mortar, tablet press, tablet die.

Operational Procedure
Compact solid samples powders into tablets. The resulting tablet can be directly put in the sample compartment of the infrared spectrometer for measurement.

Film Method
Uses: materials that have low melting points and are not prone to decomposition, sublimation or any other chemical changes during the melting process, for example, plastics and rubber.
Procedure: The sample is melted, hot-pressed into a film, and afterward, the film itself is directly measured.
Advantages: It eliminates signal overflow problems, which usually occur during direct transmission, and it is able to deliver more detailed spectral information than reflection techniques.
