Time is measured for a specific volume of liquid to be sucked up through a capillary tube using vacuum, under very precise conditions of vacuum and temperature. Viscosity in Pascal-seconds is determined by taking the flow time in seconds and multiplying it by the viscometer calibration factor.

Scope of Application

  1. This product is specially made for the purpose of measuring the dynamic viscosity of petroleum asphalt at 60℃ with a glass capillary kinematic viscometer. Besides asphalt, this product can be used for determining the viscosity of different substances in the range of 0.0036 to 20.000 Pa·s.

  2. Shear rate decreases when a liquid moves up the tube, or it may be changed by using different vacuums or different size viscometers. Therefore, this technique is apt for determining the viscosity of both Newtonian (simple) and non-Newtonian (complex) liquids.

  3. The circulating water vacuum pump provides the customers a choice of two main material options for the core: one made of stainless steel and the other one made of a corrosion-resistant material. Besides that, a vacuum regulating valve may be installed if ordered.
