Their excessive emissions can not only cause environmental problems such as acid rain and atmospheric corrosion but also pose direct harm to the human respiratory system and the ecological environment. Gas chromatography is used to achieve highly sensitive and selective quantitative analysis of these sulfur compounds. Overview

This solution conforms to the EPA Method 15 - DETERMINATION OF HYDROGEN SULFIDE, CARBONYL SULFIDE, AND CARBON DISULFIDE EMISSIONS FROM STATIONARY SOURCES. A gas sample is extracted from the emission source and diluted with clean dry air (if necessary). An aliquot of the diluted sample is then analyzed for CS₂, COS, and H₂S by GC/FPD.
